(I am away at a workshop on student mental health at the School Board Office today.)
First up, we have a guest speaker from Habitat for Humanity - Joey Clarkson, musician, performer, teacher and community go-getter. She has an idea for fundraising that she would like to share.
http://www.joeyclarkson.ca/index.html
Okay, back to business. Ms. March will help you to get busy sorting out who is going to work on what. Here is the to-do list:
Moustache Day
- Sadie and B - take the photos off the camera and make a large printout of each. It would be great if we could figure out how to attach these to a box, jar, something like that for fundraising next week.
- Taylor and Cole and ??? - finish Moustache Day posters - make lots of different ones. Remember to advertise the prize for the biggest moustache, made or grown.
- Rebecca, etc... - other ideas for Moustachio events???
Term Assembly
Find Ms. Swanson - plan away...
Christmas Hampers
Madeleine... - I need final numbers and AG's so that I can let the organizers know by the end of the week.
Ipods
Charging?
Post photos to our Facebook page?
Talent Show
- planning continues...
- help with DECORATING
- start advertising dates?
- start encouraging talented students to participate
- start asking teachers to participate too - Mr. Senner? Ms. Williams?
Christmas Planning Begins
- Holiday assembly ideas? Do you remember last year's?
- The annual AG holiday photo contest? Do you remember last year's? No... go to the Highland Leadership facebook page and scroll way, way down to find last year's slide show. You can play it in class...
- What other December events??
- How do we want to acknowledge the whole end of the world thing?
Other ideas...What about a winter carnival? Winter entrepreneurship fair (student made gifts)? New Year's Boxing Match.
Bullying Awareness Week - What about an AG activity Friday - where we ask everyone take a pledge like they do at the Argo's game to: “I will not stand by, I will stand up.” See story here: http://www.theglobeandmail.com/news/toronto/grey-cup-rally-delivers-anti-bullying-message-to-students/article5498848/ Kim? Make a handout? I will get it out to all AG's....
More ideas must be out there! :) Have a great day!

Today's ToDoooo!
1) Leaders Must Be... video (stop at about 2:25) We have a lot to do today, so here is a little motivational video to get you going. While you watch, write down the one quote that you want to remember while you work today. You cannot move on to do work outside of the class until you've done so.
2) Sharing Learning
2) Sharing Learning
- We Day Sharing (girls, tell us what you learned, saw, loved, etc...)
- Solana's thoughts about the Youth Conference she attended.
3) To Do List
Energy Ambassadors http://www.bchydro.com/community/youth_education/energy_reviews.html - All of the leadership classes from the other high schools are sending a team of students willing to be "trained" (indoctrinated) by BC Hydro to become the school's energy ambassadors (people who tell people to turn their lights off and power down computers, etc...). The EcoTeam does not really trust that a money making corporation like BC Hydro has an honest agenda, but I say... this is something that you can put on your resume, scholarship applications, etc... that is relatively easy to accomplish and it gets you a day at Vanier mixing and mingling with other leadership students. I need three to eight people to sign up, and then we can spend Thursday away from school. You get credit for this class by going. Who's in? Did I mention that there is free lunch? I need names TODAY.

Bake Sale Girls - go to office and ask to roll up and count and deposit money
Concession - we left a mess of dishes! Eeeek. Please wash all the pans, etc... that we used and discuss plans for this Thursday. Make a to-do list for Thursday. What did we learn from the chaos of last week? What do you need to buy? (I can get it for you)
Spirit Week - great ideas but the advertising and organization has been very weak. I put up your banner and made the point system for AG's and advertised in FB, but today you need to cover the school in those little posters (on outside bench) and write up an announcement for tomorrow, and why not make a slideshow for the TV's - ask Ms. Jerome in the library about this.
Haunted House - love the plans, keep it building! Recruit helpers as needed...
Bullying Awareness/Compassion Building Group - have a group discussion and keep notes. Talk about our school culture... is Highland safe? Can we make Highland a nicer place to be? What do we think of our crazy teacher's online opinion piece: http://blogs.vancouversun.com/2012/10/17/amanda-todd-and-our-culture-of-meanness/ Can we ask our students to be less mean? Can we be ordinary heroes and stand up to meanness?
Others - find the list on the back blackboard... what can you be working on?
