Best Graduation Speeches

Grad is this weekend.

Let's look at some of the best grad speeches of recent history. Each one offers some leadership advice, at the very least some advice about how to be a better person:

David Foster Wallace, 2005https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DKYJVV7HuZw

Steve Jobs, Stanford, 2005https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=D1R-jKKp3NA&feature=kp

Conan O'Brien, 2011https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KmDYXaaT9sA

Soooo - if you were in charge of the grad speech, what would you say? Groups....

Leadership Assignments Term 4

What kind of leader are you?

Complete the following questionnaire and print out the results page. In pen, write your name and a minimum of 5 sentences explaining what the results taught you about yourself. Hand this is to Ms. Colborne http://www.celebritytypes.com/big-five/test.php

Create a Mission Statement

A mission statement tells you who you are, and what you really value.
An example - written by your teacher:
I will start everyday with an open mind and heart.
I will try to stay positive, even when life really gets awful.
I want to be caring.
I want to be creative.
I want to live a life filled with thoughtful reflection and a little bit of adventure.
I aspire to travel.
I hope to fill my days with family.
I want to be a good role model for my students, of how to make the best of this amazing life.

Go to: http://www.franklincovey.com/msb/  and do the work to create a PERSONAL MISSION statement. Print off the results. Now, take your favourite lines and create a visual/poster of your mission statement. Hand this in with your name on the back.

To Do Today!

I'm sick... I barely made it through yesterday... SO here is your to-do list for today. To make things simple, I will group you and give you specific tasks.

Grade 12's - Marshal, Ryan, Roann, Nic
You are going to take the next four classes to create a photo slideshow of everyone in your Grad Class. We'll put it up on Facebook and YouTube when it is done, so people can share and keep the memories.

Here are the steps on how to do this:

  1. First, ask Ruth in the office for a list of all the grads. Today.
  2. Find a camera(s) to use that will take decent photos and download easily to a folder. Ask Ms. Jerome in the library if you need help. A iphone can do the work, just make sure you get up-close or get an easy to use photo-editing app. Today.
  3. Take fun/good photos of every single grad. Group photos are fine.
  4. Keep track as you go. The goal is to have one photo of every grad.
  5. Download all the photos to a shared folder.
  6. Edit the photos. Crop out all the boring stuff.
  7. Upload the photos to something like Photostory, or even Powerpoint (One photo per slide).
  8. You can add funny, inspirational, positive quotes to each image if you want.... maybe even ask every student to pick their favourite quote or...?
  9. Pick a song(s) to add to the slideshow.
  10. Create the slideshow. Save the file.
  11. Put it up on Facebook and Youtube.
Audrey, Leah (and... I'd like you to mentor/meet Chelsea Brydon)
  • Please catch Chelsea up on your plans and projects.
  • Chelsea please tell them about your idea too.
  • Ms. Swanson is giving you $47 for the garden.
  • You must figure out a way to fundraise the rest. A bake sale? A concession lunch?
  • Start researching/planning where to shop.
Dennis and Patrick
  • Your letters are ready to go. See the back blackboard.
  • Get a letter and piece of paper delivered to as many AG teachers as you can today.
  • I emailed all the teachers to say that you were coming - you can remind them to look at my email if need be.
Alexa, Gillian, Leann, Jeff Young - please clean the windows in the foyer.... try to get as little mess on the floor as possible, chat with the ever awesome Gord. Leave the front door paint. Thanks! :)

Madi, MacKenzie, Morgan - You are in charge of the next Spirit Day. Find a theme, pick a day, start developing a printable poster. :)

Jake, Liam, Alina, Savanna - how did the Hair Day go... discuss... and because the photo booth probably did not happen, go out and get some photos of crazy hair.... decide on some winners. Tell the office. Then email me the names and I will get prizes to school tomorrow. This is not optional. This must be done today.

Christian, Sarah, Sierra, Kassidy, Alex - Ms. Swanson says no to a 30 hour famine... but suggests you look at putting together a Relay-forLife team. Get online. Do the research. Start organizing a team(s). It`s an overnight relay run and walk... that is so much fun. Isfeld always has at least a few teams. We should do this too!

If I missed anyone... just a join a group! Have a fun afternoon. Early dismissal. Woo!
